Temple of the Resurrection of the Word from Patakino, Suzdal

The small village of Patakino would have remained unknown if in the distant 1776, the local landowner, owner of land and peasants, had not planned to build a church. The temple was simple, rustic. It served mainly for the funeral of the dead, but was symbolically named in honor of the Resurrection, however, the Reader. Probably, it was consecrated on the day when the church celebrates the consecration of another temple – Jerusalem. “Worthy” means “so-called”, it is a holiday in honor of the consecration of the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord, which was built by Constantine the Great in 335. Now it is better known as the temple of the Holy Sepulchre. The word “hearing” as it says that the holiday is not in honor of the Resurrection, as such, but in honor of the consecration of the Resurrection Temple.

Russian masters, even from ordinary peasants, built on conscience and after 2 centuries the church still stood as if nothing had happened. But now it has historical value. When an open-air museum was created in Suzdal, the church was moved from Patakino.

The building represents one of the classic forms of church architecture: the ship. The bell tower, refectory and altar are on the same line, along the same axis. The ceiling is made in a special style, an octagonal tent. This overlap is called the sky. Usually the sky was painted, but in Patakino it was simply whitewashed.

When the church was moved, it was restored, but all the original details were preserved and the iconostasis was restored.
