Temple of Nicholas the Wonderworker, Privolzhsk

Nikolsky temple in the village of Yakovlevo, which is now called Volga, was built in 1779. Building the world. Peasants went to other provinces to raise money. The other churches of the diocese helped. The temple is a sight. But the bell tower stood out especially. Tall, snow-white, it was visible from far approaches to the village.

In the year of its 170th anniversary, in 1939 the temple was closed. Fighters with religion dropped bells, but did not calm down and burned icons. The premises were put into storage. For 50 years the temple was slowly destroyed.

The year 1989 was remembered by several events. On behalf of the parishioners, a request was made for the return of the temple. It was sent to the authorities, but received a negative response.

Soon after, lightning struck the bell tower, it tilted and began to pose a threat to people. A demining brigade was called, the territory was fenced off. It collapsed or sappers helped, but the bell tower collapsed, damaging the cathedral. The warehouse was evacuated urgently.

At this point, the authorities remembered the request of the faithful and handed over the remains of the church. Her recovery immediately began. Again, the whole world collected funds, worked on construction and old and young. On the feast of the Intercession, exactly 50 years later, the temple again opened its doors to believers.

Another 4 years later, in 1993, a community was opened for female followers on the basis of the parish. In 1998 it was transformed into a convent. At the Nikolsky monastery there is a Sunday school, a shelter for girls, a gymnasium.
