The temple of the Ascension of the Lord in the village of Plastunovskaya, Kuban

There are many temples built in honor of the victory over the enemy. And there are temples that were simply built for local parishioners, and they still personify heroism and courage.

Such is the Resurrection Temple in the village of Plastunovskaya.

The story began long before the foundation was laid.

In 1791, after two bloody Russian-Turkish wars, Russia secured lands in the Azov region, Kuban and the Black Sea region. In these wars distinguished the army of Zaporozhye Cossacks. It was even renamed the Black Sea. After the war, Catherine II gave the land on the right bank of the Kuban to the Black Sea Cossacks.

Realizing that their main task would be to protect the southern borders, the Cossacks of the Black Sea troops moved to new lands. 40 villages were founded in Kuban. One of them was Plastunovskaya.

Where Orthodox are, there are temples. In 1794 a wooden church was built. And in 1866 began the construction of stone.

They built the whole world, sacrificed what they could. Rich Cossacks are money, and who is simpler – cattle, grain. Everything was sold and the money went to build the temple. It took many years and only in 1899 the temple appeared before the villagers in all its glory. Classic Byzantine style
The Kuban Cossacks liked it. The temple in the form of a cross is crowned with 5 domes, symbolizing Christ and the four evangelists.

With the attempts of the Soviet authorities to destroy the temple, there is an interesting story. In 1933, they tried to blow up the building, but only one corner collapsed. Suddenly a woman cried. People rushed to the temple, but although they heard crying, they could not find the woman.
Someone suggested that it was the Virgin who wept, seeing the fate of the church. The story of crying made a strong impression on the locals, the building to blow up thought. But the church was closed for a long 10 years and only in 1943 services began there again.

Cossacks – immigrants, filled the temple with shrines.
It says:

Icon of St. Panteleimon, painted on Mount Athos in 1881
Part of the relics of St. Clement, Pope of Rome
Ancient icons of oval shape with gilding
Many ancient icons on metal

The iconostasis of the church is also unusual. Three-story, richly decorated. It came from a church in Kiev when it was closed.

By the centenary of the church, it was renovated. They gilded a large dome, decorated it with a cross. Updated plaster, added paintings on the walls. Icons.

The Ascension Church stands on the hill, as if calling to come in, to pray for people who just lived, just believed, just built churches. But it was a life of courage and faith. And the temple appeared in honor of the victory. Although its builders did not even think about it.
