The site for the cathedral was chosen by Seraphim of Sarov. The first stone was laid in 1848, but the construction took several decades. It was not until 1875 that it was consecrated, although the internal work was not completed. Services were held in warm times. At the same time, the nuns of the monastery painted the walls of the cathedral. Huge paintings depicted scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
In this cathedral was kept the icon of the Virgin “Tendering”. St. Seraphim of Sarov most loved to spend time in prayer before her. So he died, kneeling, praising the praise of the Mother of God, the Supreme Abbot of the Diveyevo Monastery.
In 1927, the cathedral was closed. The building fell into disrepair. During the time of oblivion, the icon “Tender” disappeared, but the cathedral has a list of it, created in the early 20th century.
The temple building has long been used as a granary and warehouse. It was partially destroyed, the paintings on the walls were lost. The church was returned to the church in 1989. In 1990 worship services were resumed.
Now the cathedral amazes with its splendor, wall painting, gold salaries. Services are held daily, especially solemn on Christmas, Easter and on the day of memory of Seraphim of Sarov.
