Temple of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos from the Alexandro-Kushtsky Monastery, Vologda region

A deaf corner of the Vologda region through which the Kushta River flows, attracted a lonely monk Alexander. He thought that here, far from settlements and roads, nothing would distract from fasting and prayer. At first he lived alone, but then several wandering monks joined him. By 1420, there were so many brothers that they decided to organize a monastery. They built a church, cells. There were outbuildings. In 1519, all the buildings were destroyed by fire.
The monastery slowly revived, and did not recover to the end, but the church was rebuilt. They are dedicated to the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God. The building for those places is usual — a tent church. But that it remained in this form after the reforms of Patriarch Nikon, who banned tent churches, is surprising.

The deaf forest corner is good for privacy, but the place was too remote for the monastery to flourish. The monastery of Hirela and in 1764 it was closed. But not forever. In 1833, the monastery was reopened, but not as an independent monastery, but as part of Spaso-Prilutsky.

In the early 20th century, the church was repaired in parts. We changed the roof, put up a new cross, put up a stone foundation.

The parish at the Assumption Church existed until 1927. Then the temple was officially closed, and in 1960 it was recognized as an architectural monument and transported to the Spaso-Prilutsky monastery. The icons from the altar and the gilded Royal Gate were transferred to the Vologda Historical Museum.

The church itself has been restored. She returned the original appearance, removed the cladding, replaced the rotten logs. The brothers of the Savior-Prilutsky Monastery take care of the temple.
