In the town of Sim, there is the oldest temple of the Ashinsky district — the church of the Great Martyr Dimitry of Thessalun. For two and a half centuries she went through raids, fire, Soviet warehouse and came back to life.
Factory and temple
In 1762, Ivan Tverdyshev and Ivan Myasnikov founded the Sim ironworks. At the same time, at their own expense, they built a stone church. The name is associated either with the day of consecration — the memory of Dimitry Solunsky falls on November 8 — or with the Moscow mansion Myasnikov, which stood opposite the temple of Dimitry Solunsky on Tverskaya. Perhaps both versions are true.
Fire and revival
In May 1774, Salavat Yulaev’s detachment captured the Sim factory. The temple was desecrated and burned. During the siege, the first abbot, the priest Simeon Lvov, who organized resistance to the rebels, died. After the uprising, the church was restored.
Capital restructuring occurred in 1820-1821. The owner of the plant Irina Beketova allocated funds, the project was developed by a student of the famous architect Kazakov — Efim Malyutin. In 1821, the renovated temple was consecrated. Later it was consecrated twice more: in 1872 — after the installation of a new iconostasis, and in 1901 — because of the replacement of the old antimins. In 1902, a large bell was raised on the belfry.
Grain, warehouse and fire station
In 1929, the temple was closed. In the early 1930s, the bell tower and the dome were destroyed. The building was transferred to the fire depot — in the wall at the site of the altar, a passage for fire trucks was punched. During the war there was a factory dining room, then a warehouse of the supply department. The interior layout has changed beyond recognition, the decoration is lost.
Return
In 1990, the building was returned to the faithful. By Easter 1991, the first service in sixty years was held. City-forming enterprise OJSC Aggregat assumed the bulk of the costs. In 2010, an ensemble of six domes with gilded crosses appeared above the roof. The construction of a full-fledged belfry and a large dome is a matter of the future.
The temple is an object of cultural heritage of regional importance. The abbot is Archpriest Alexy Subbotin. Divine services are performed regularly.
