Holy Trinity Kholkovo Monastery, with Holki, Belgorod region

Not far from Old Oskol is a monastery whose history dates back to 1620. This year, his name appeared in the parish inventory. The abode was unusual. Monks lived in caves that were very reminiscent of their location and the structure of the cave of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The cells were hollowed out in the hill. Apart from the chalk bed and table, there was nothing in them. Services were held in an underground temple, and at the top a small gate temple and several outbuildings were built.
During the time of Catherine the Great, the monastery was closed, the entrance to the caves was blocked. The upper temple became parish.
In 1990, volunteers began to clear the entrance to the caves. On the day of the Intercession of the Virgin, the caves were opened for visiting. They became part of the local museum and were used only for tourist purposes.

Only in 1995, services were resumed in the cave temple. In 1999, the Kholkovo Monastery was officially opened.
In 2022, a commemorative coin dedicated to the monastery was issued.
Currently, the monastery operates:
