Nicolostolpen desert, Tver region

Not far from Upper Volochka, on the bank of Tveritsa there was a small monastery. Nikolsk monastery, according to legend, was founded in the time of Ivan the Terrible, but written mentions are found only from the 18th century.

Still preserved part of the fence, gate bell tower, several cells built in the 18th century. St. Nicholas Church was built at the end of the 19th century (1878). Later, in the center of the monastery, the Pokrovsky Cathedral was built, but it did not survive.

The St. Nicholas Church represents an architectural style, which is called pseudo-Byzantine, then Russian-Byzantine. The composition of the temple is a quadruple on fours, to which the apse adjoins. The church has 2 porches and a covered porch. The upper tier is decorated with stone elements, the lower is more restrained.

The abbot and refectory are made in the style of classicism, there is no decor on them.

The abode works. The bell tower offers stunning views. However, getting there is not easy. There is no regular service, and most importantly, no normal route.
