Many cathedrals are dedicated to the Holy Trinity, but Krasnodar stands out among all. The beautiful red brick, crowned with green and golden chapters, attracts the eye and instills a sense of solemn peace.
The history of the cathedral began in the 19th century. At that time, churches were actively built throughout Russia in honor of the rescue of the royal family during the railway wreck. The Kubans decided to keep up. In 1899, it was decided to build, but if not for the generosity of a simple Russian woman, it is unknown how the fate of the cathedral would have developed. The widow of Ephrosyne Shcherbinina sacrificed her only value: a land plot, in order to build a temple on it.
The work took a long time, 11 years. Funds were not enough, at one time the construction was mothballed for 2 years. In 1910, the temple was completed and consecrated.
The funds were found for his interior decoration. Powerful, three-tier iconostasis, magnificent painting, rich utensils gave the temple a solemn, festive look.
The revolution at first did not affect the fate of the temple, the services were regularly held until 1934. But there was no escape from the hammer of new power. The thirtieth bells and crosses were removed, and the building was converted to meet the needs of the city. What was not there, from the theater and warehouses to the sculptural workshop. Even the church was reopened. From 1944 to 1961, the temple
It worked, but then it was closed again.
As a result of thoughtless use, the inner painting suffered, and the one that survived was smeared. The roof was dilapidated and the view of the building was the most unsightly. On the wave of perestroika, the citizens petitioned for the opening of the temple and in 1990 it was again handed over to the faithful. Recovery work continued for 4 years. Restorers did everything possible to restore the interior painting. The builders replaced the roof, strengthened the walls.
Now the cathedral is striking in beauty. From the large windows pours sunlight, which emphasizes the colors on the frescoes. The restored iconostasis, other decoration reflect the sun’s rays, filling everything around with golden glow. The magnificent acoustics fill the temple with the wonderful singing of the choir of local seminarians.
The shrines of the cathedral that were in it before closing were lost, but the temple found new ones. In the cathedral carefully stored particles of relics:
Holy Warrior Fedor Ushakov
Saints Alexander and Fyodor of Sanaxar
Saint Mary of Egypt
There are always people in the temple, but the Trinity holiday is especially crowded. The Liturgy is served by Metropolitan Catherine and Kuban, and after it they perform the Trinity Service and conduct a procession of the Cross.
