In the middle of the 19th century, in search of a better life, peasant families began to move from the Belgorod and Tambov provinces to the south. They formed villages and villages, calling them by the same names as in their homeland. So, on the bank of the river Egorlyk there was a large village of Dmitrovskoye.
As soon as they settled in a new place, the settlers took care to build a church. They raised funds and started construction in 1864. It is amazing how far from big cities, architectural firms and art schools managed to create a building of subtle beauty, great taste, eclectic architectural style.
The population grew, after 10 years the church became small. The money was raised and the temple was expanded in 1875. The St. Nicholas Church was not only a religious institution for the villagers. Under her there were parish schools for girls and boys, and in 20 years professional schools were opened.
For a long time, the Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker was the only one in Dmitrievsky, but in the early 20th century, they built another 2: Trinity and Uspenskaya. These churches have not survived, and the temple of Nicholas the Wonderworker was constantly operating. It was repaired regularly and it was good.
preserved.
The building was built according to the five-headed scheme generally accepted after the reforms of Patriarch Nikon.
The central drum and bell tower are crowned by tents, and small domes are onions. Outside, the temple is richly decorated with stucco, and inside — well-preserved tiles. Some of the icons in the iconostasis are old, 17-18 centuries, some are new. Many of them were donated by the villagers. Thanks.
With high windows, the temple is always full of light. The ancient iconostasis, a huge dome, the remains of wall paintings create a mood of worship and humility, and also joy from communion with the Lord.
