Myshkin, the city is small, but quite ancient. The status of the city was given to him in 1777. By the beginning of the 19th century, a master plan was approved, where the foundational element was the Assumption Cathedral. Italian architect Manfrini was invited to build it.
The construction was financed by the merchants Drozhdenkov and Zamyatkin. Fundraising among parishioners was also announced.
The cathedral is classic, five-domed. The central dome is surrounded by 4 small towers. Nearby built a three-tier bell tower.
After the consecration, the cathedral was painted by the master-serfs. They used a special technique, grisaille, to decorate the temple not only with characters from the Bible, but also with stucco, columns, decorative cornices. This has significantly reduced domestic spending.
temple decoration.
Artists not only painted the temple, but also painted icons for the altar and iconostasis. In 186, the building was decorated with stained glass, and the painting was renewed. It has survived, but only partially.
Alas, in 1918, the iconostasis with all the icons was cut and lowered to the Volga, and the bells were thrown from a height and smashed. A warehouse was built in the building, and a water tower was built on the bell tower.
In 1991, the building was returned to the Yaroslavl Diocese. Repair work continued for many years. Since the temple is summer, services are held there from May to October.
In 2010, Patriarch Kirill visited the cathedral. He gave the Tikhvin Icon of the Virgin as a gift.
The restored bell tower can be climbed by restored spiral staircases. On one of the tiers there is a repository of church vestments and decoration, and from the top they open.
Wonderful views.
