The Assumption of Righteous Anna, Mother of the Virgin

“With your patience save your souls.”Luke 21,19)

Anna’s story is a story of patience, humility and hope. Being childless
A culture where the absence of children was considered a punishment for sin. Bring hope through a long life full of trials. To accept these trials with humility, and not for a moment to doubt the plan of God.

Anna, modest, quiet, seemingly unremarkable, deserved a priceless reward in the eyes of the Lord. Anna became not just a mother, she became the mother of the Virgin.

Anna herself was born in the family of a priest, which means that she was from the family of Levites. When the time came, she married Joachim, of the family of David.

The couple lived in love and harmony, but year after year, and they did not have children. So.
They lived to old age when an event happened that changed the world.

Joachim wanted to offer a sacrifice in the temple, but the high priest did not accept it, believing that
Only sinners are childless. The upset elder went to the desert, where he spent 40 days in fasting and prayer.

During this time, Anna also prayed at home. Seeing the chicks in the nest, she with special trembling lifted up the praise of the Lord and revealed to him her desire to become a mother. In her prayer, Anna promised to consecrate the child to the Lord. There was a vision in which an angel told the woman that her request had been heard. The Lord promised that she would become the mother of a girl through whom blessing would come to all the tribes of the earth.

Anna immediately went to the temple, where she met Joachim, who also had a vision. The couple thanked the Lord and had a daughter in due time. They called the girl Maria.

The parents spent 3 years with their daughter, and then, as promised, brought her to the Temple. Joachim died soon after, and Anna died.

But in our memory, they will forever remain examples of faith. Difficulties, condemnation, ridicule, sorrow did not anger them, did not turn away from the worship of the Creator.

And so today, in the canon for the succession of righteous Anna, we call her the God-called, all-populous, “righteously and reverendly lived.”

Today we remember the righteous Anna, whose sorrow the Lord has turned into joy, whose
He made dishonor into a great honor. Let us thank the Lord for His mercy and trust in Him, as St. Anna did.
