Baptism is a great Christian sacrament. Through immersion in water, a person renounces the old life and is reborn into a new one. This custom was born in Judea when John the Baptist called the Jews to repent and, immersed in water, wash away all sin.
Dozens of people came to hear John speak, many of them were baptized.
One morning Christ came to the shore of the Jordan. John considered himself unworthy of baptizing the Lord, but Jesus insisted.
He did not need to be cleansed of sin because he was sinless. But by participating in the sacrament, Christ sanctified him, gave him inner strength.
With Baptism begins the path of the Savior. Golgotha is still 3 years away, but the redemption has already begun.
Another incredible event happened that day. For the first time, the entire Holy Trinity was presented to people. God the Father showed himself in a voice, pointing to Christ as a beloved son. The Holy Spirit was a dove and Jesus a man. Therefore, this holiday is also called the Manifestation of God.
The Greek word “babtisma” means immersion in water. But not a simple immersion, but accompanied by a certain change. An excellent example is the immersion of wool in paint. The wool is not just immersed, it changes and another is pulled out of the liquid.
For a Christian, baptism is a profound change that leads him to a new life, to a life with Christ.
Do I have to jump into the hole that day? No, not necessarily. This is not a canonical ritual, it does not cleanse sins. Visiting church, confessing and communing is a good idea.
It is recommended to collect consecrated water to bring home and use a little, with prayer and a pure heart.
