A significant event took place in Primorye – on Mount Oblachnaya, the highest point of the region (1854 meters above sea level), on October 8, 2026, a five-meter bow cross was installed and consecrated.
The installation of the cross is timed immediately to three memorable dates: the 15th anniversary of the Arsenyev diocese, the anniversary of the Chuguevsky district and the Day of formation of the Primorsky Territory. Behind the external solemnity of the moment is a whole history of human effort and common cause.
The initiators of the installation were the Cossacks of the village of Izyubryny. They appealed to Bishop Arsenyevsky and Dalnegorsky Guria with a proposal to put an Orthodox symbol on top. Vladyka Guriy supported the idea, and the work went further: the sketch of the cross was created by the architect of the diocese nun Feodora (Simbirtseva). Funds for production were collected all over the world, and the cross was directly welded by Hierodeacon Dositheus (Zykov). A special meaning is felt in this: a thing created with the participation of believers becomes not just an object, but a part of the general spiritual work.
The cross also carries a semantic load: on one side there is a memorial plaque fixed, and on the other — the text of the prayer «Our Father» and the icons of the Archangel Michael and the Great Martyr Theodore Tyrone. The choice of images is not accidental. Archangel Michael is traditionally perceived as a protector and patron, and the Great Martyr Theodore Tyrone is revered as an intercessor and assistant in trials. Together they become the spiritual guardian of this height.
Getting a five-meter cross to the top of a mountain is a technically challenging task. Coordination at the regional level played an important role here: the Governor of Primorsky Krai Oleg Kozhemyako helped to coordinate the final details with the aviators, thanks to which the structure was able to lift up the mountain. This is how people’s initiative, church blessing and practical support of the authorities came together.
For residents of the region and pilgrims, the new cross is not just a memorable sign. It is a place where you can stop, feel the scale of nature and at the same time touch something bigger – tradition, memory and faith. The symbol installed at the highest point of Primorye reminds: even where the earth goes up, a person seeks support, and often finds it in what has been tested by time and common work.
