St. Seraphim Cathedral in Vyatka was built by co-religionists. This is the trend of the Old Believers, who preserved the double fingers and services according to old books, but recognized the power of the Moscow Patriarchate. The community of co-religionists in the city was small and for a long time it did not have its own church. Only in 1904, at the expense of Vyatka merchants, an elegant, five-domed church was built.
The temple was consecrated in 1907. It survived the formidable 30s, but in 1940, the city authorities decided that the cathedral they do not need, and the building is suitable … for the Museum of Atheism. Thanks to this, the building itself, and icons, and church utensils were preserved. Only now they have become exhibits of the museum. The church was not a museum for long. In 1942 it was reopened for service. Until 1988, it was the only church in the city.
The church is now open to visitors and has daily services. The bright, unusual temple attracts pilgrims and tourists. It is the main attraction of the city.
