Why did everyone suddenly become afraid? Deaths from coronavirus? Maybe someone thinks that it will be easier to die from cancer? Or lie paralyzed after a stroke? And do you think it will be easier for any other diseases? Death will come someday in any case and you will still have to die from something.
Someone will say, “but not now, it’s too early, I still want to live.” And what healthy person can say: “Now is the time, I don’t want to live, I want to die”? Dying is always scary, and that’s okay. Even Christ was afraid of death, and His holy soul was “deadly anguished” in the Garden of Gethsemane when He had not yet experienced physical pain (Matt. 26:37).
Now people are afraid not of the virus, but of the thought that death may come to their home. All this is still only in our heads. The trouble is that our minds are so stuck in these thoughts that some, even among the Orthodox, have already forgotten about Lent, and about repentance, and that in fact Christ is Risen, which means that he who believes in Him “even if he dies will live” (John 11:25). to die from this virus. And someone will live on. What is worse for an Orthodox person? It would seem a rhetorical question, of course, it’s better for us to live on, so that there is still time for prayer and repentance. But.. I’m not sure for whom…
What will happen to us when the crown is not on the virus, but on the one who will reign throughout the world in the last times, but are we afraid of dying from a new disease? which of us will decide to voluntary death from hunger for ourselves and our children, especially when it will be enough to stretch out our hand and, having received the seal, “live like everyone else”? will they envy the dead,” when people will seek death, and it will flee from them? (cf. Rev. 9:6), when even the elect will be tempted… And if those days had not been shortened, no flesh would have been saved (Matthew 24:22). worse! The smell of sulfur can already be heard, breathing malice into the necks of all humanity.
Therefore, calm down and trust in the One who said: “Be of good cheer. I have overcome the world” (John 16:33), Believe in the One who wants only one thing — to share His Eternal Joy with us. Life!!! Theologian: “Blessed are those who die in the Lord” (Rev. 14:13). Land
