The family of the Hieromartyr Father Alexander Parusnikov kept a cow, which, as in many families then, was a nurse. One day, authorities took her out of the courtyard. Father Alexander was in the temple at the time. When he returned home, he saw those close to him in turmoil and asked what had happened. His wife, Alexandra Ivanovna, said:
— The cow was taken out of our yard.
— The cow was taken? Come quickly, all children, get on your knees. Let us give thanks to Nicholas the Wonderworker.
Alexandra Ivanovna looked at him with perplexity and exclaimed:
— Father?
— Sashenka, God gave, God took. Thanksgiving prayer service.
Since the pastor’s family had no cow, a basket of milk and two loaves of bread appeared on the porch every day. Older children spent a long time at the window facing the porch to find out who brought them food. Sometimes, until late at night, they looked, but they never managed to see the benefactor. This miracle of God’s help through the prayers of St. Nicholas continued for a long time.
