When Polina was six years old, she became amazingly pious. There is probably not a single temple in the area that she would not cross herself upon seeing.
Once we were all returning home together by car. Already approaching the house, we came alongside the temple. Polina, seeing the temple, crossed herself, and noticing that she was the only one being baptized, she started a scandal in the car.
Everyone laughed. So much so that I even slowed down to cope with the fit of laughter.
Suddenly, a car coming towards us flew into our lane and rushed straight at us. A split second before the collision, the drunk driver turned the steering wheel and pulled off to the side of the road.
We sat in silence. Nobody laughed, everyone was intently making the sign of the cross.
