An Orthodox Muscovite had a great grief. Her grown-up son went missing — went to take something to a friend, and never reached him. A few weeks later, he was killed in a Satanic ritual. In order to somehow alleviate the grief of the inconsolable sufferer, a friend of his son brought her a parrot as a gift. It is not known how he got the bird, only when the parrot began to live with Zinaida Feodorovna, almost immediately said: “Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy!” With great Lent, Keshka changed his «rule.» Instead of the threefold “Lord have mercy” he counted exactly twelve prayers, paused a little, and gave the entire prayer of Ephraim the Syrian. Again he was silent, and sighing, he said with a deep crush in his voice: “Lord, have mercy and forgive my sinful soul!” Once Zinaida Fedorovna had to go away for a while. I came back, and I was stunned. The front door is removed from the hinges and leaned against the wall. First thought: «Icons and Keshka!» I went into the room, thank God, everything was there. The icons are untouched, and Keshka from the cage joyfully greets the hostess: “Lord have mercy!” And soon she was summoned to court in the case of robbery of apartments, caught robbers. They ask, «Who took what from?» We got to her address. — What did you get here? — Nothing! The door was removed, only the entrance came, we hear the old woman praying in the room. We left. After that, Keshka learned another prayer: “Praise my soul to the Lord.” Time goes by and everything will be fine, but something is missing. Zinaida complained to her sincere friend, who came to visit: I have a good Keshka, listening to him is a joy to my heart. He will never praise the Mother of God. Tatiana waited when Zinaida fell asleep, sat down to the cage and let’s reproach the parrot: “Keshenka, how not ashamed of you!” You know so many prayers, but you do not pray to the Mother of God.So, repeat after me: Holy Mother of God, save us! Keshka’s listening and not a word back. He was silent the next morning. Two days have passed, Tatiana calls Zinaida, almost crying: “My Keshka is silent!” He stopped praying. I can’t do it without his prayers! Tatiana was worried too, because it was her fault. I came and let’s convince the bird: Keshenka, my dear, don’t be offended, just don’t be silent. Zinaida is so bad without your prayers! The parrot remained silent for a couple of days and then spoke. As usual, three times «Lord have mercy» and loudly and joyfully — «Holy Mother of God, save us!» And again, life went on as usual. They didn’t teach Keshka anything anymore. Holy Week is over, Great Saturday night. Zinaida gathered and went to church for the All-Night. I got back this morning. She said, «I’m here, Keshka!» He answered, “Christ is risen.”
