His letters, essays, notes are still subjects for studying not only theological but also philosophical faculties.
In 397 Saint John was appointed archpastor in Constantinople. There his ascetic life and fiery endowment of sins caused discontent among the courtiers. The saint was slandered and even wanted to be executed. At the last minute, the execution was replaced by exile.
As soon as John left the city, trouble began.
earthquakes, fires. At the order of the emperor, the saint was returned to the city, but soon he was again persecuted and exiled.
Seriously ill John Chrysostom died on September 27, 407, in Armenia. Due to the coincidence with the Ascension, his memory was moved to November 13.

30 years after his death, by order of the emperor, the relics of the saint were transferred to Constantinople. They were taken to Rome in 1204 during the Fourth Crusade. In 2004, some of them were returned to the Church of St. George in Istanbul. Particles of relics are stored in Rome, on Mount Athos, in the church of Christ the Savior.
