2 weeks before Christmas, the church remembers the heroes of the faith who awaited His coming with unwavering confidence.
Sin separated us from the Lord, but to Adam God promised to send a deliverer, the Messiah.
Centuries passed, but there was no Redeemer. The Jewish people were moving away from
The Lord returned to him, but always, before Abraham and after him, there were people in him who showed by their example a firm belief that the promise of the Lord would be fulfilled.
On the penultimate Sunday (week) before Christmas, the Church celebrates the memory of the Old Testament patriarchs. People like us, but in whom faith burned with unquenchable fire. Those who have relied on the will of the Lord, without asking for evidence, signs or other evidence.
The veneration of the patriarchs of faith reminds us of the great future – the appearance of the Messiah in this world. They are:
The amazing (unsaid) Christmas of Christ was proclaimed;
● Lived a wonderful life;
● a worthy death by completing it;
Forefathers include Adam, Enoch, Melchizedek, Noah, Job, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.
Joseph, Moses, David, and other heroes of the faith who lived before Jesus was born.
The service also recalls the amazing story of three friends of the prophet Daniel: Ananias, Azarias, Misael, who were thrown into the furnace for their adherence to the faith. However, the Lord sent an angel to save them not only from death, but even from the smell of burning.
Separately, the memory of the prophet Daniel and the three youths is again celebrated on the Sunday before Christmas (the week of the fathers).
The main merit of the forefathers is unshakable faith. The church service on this day says that “by faith the Lord justified the forefathers” and magnified them “in all languages (nations).” From their family came the Virgin, who in her virginity gave birth to Christ. From generation to generation, from the righteous to the righteous, piety, virtue, power of faith were transmitted until they were incarnated in Mary, in her holiness and purity, who served the great mystery — the birth of the Savior.
