In the name of Sergius of Radonezh, every believer’s heart freezes. There were many saints in Russia. But few of them, having retired into the thicket, were able to serve the birth of the Russian state and liberation from the Tatar yoke.
The wisdom of Sergius amazed contemporaries. And his life was inspiring. He made his heart a vessel for the Life-giving Trinity, devoting his life to serving God and the Russian land.
Sergius served to save many, and the monastery he created became the center of the spiritual life of Russia. Now he bears his name and every believer dreams of visiting the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
When Sergius died in 1392, he was buried in the Trinity Cathedral. After 30 years (1422), he appeared in a dream to a simple but pious layman. In the vision Sergius asked to convey to the abbot Tikhon the question: “How long will you keep me underground, where on all sides I am surrounded by water?”
They immediately opened the grave. With a large crowd of people, the coffin was removed from the grave, which was really filled with water. With the lid removed, everyone breathed a sigh of amazement. The body and clothing of the saint were completely preserved, despite the fact that the coffin was submerged in water.
Cancer with relics was first placed in a wooden Trinity Church, and then moved to a stone one. It’s still there.
