At the turn of the 8th and 9th centuries, in the midst of the struggle of the iconoclasts and their opponents, John the Confessor lived in Constantinople. From a young age he devoted himself to the service of the Lord, in early youth he was tonsured as a monk in the Psychaic Lavra. He prayed with devotion and zeal in prayer. He was endowed with the gift of healing illnesses, both physical and mental.
Iconoclasts tried in every possible way to persuade John to their side. With affection and threats, he was forced to sign a renunciation of the veneration of icons. But neither promises nor intimidation could turn John away from what he believed with all his heart. Then he was exiled where, although he suffered many hardships, he died peacefully, his death.
