Dovmont was a princely family, was born and lived in Lithuania, until he fled from there to Pskov from internecine strife. He brought 300 families with him. In Pskov he accepted Orthodoxy under the name Timothy. This happened in 1265.
Vera Dovmont took not for a tick, but with all his soul. He was an exemplary Christian and did good deeds. At the same time, he was a talented commander, held several successful companies. Soon, the Pskovites elected him their prince.
During the 33 years of his reign, Prince Timothy conducted many battles and participated in dozens of campaigns, protecting the Pskov land from the Livonian knights and Lithuanian raids.
The prince lived according to conscience, watched the law, generously distributed alms, helped the poor. He sacrificed much to churches and monasteries and built the monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God.
Before the battle, the prince always spent time in prayer. He brought his sword to the altar, and after prayers asked the confessor to bless and gird the sword.
In 1299, Dovmont-Timofey fought his last battle. He defeated a large army, avenging them for attacking the monastery and burning it, killing all the inhabitants.
The same year the prince died. They buried him in the Trinity Cathedral. Pskovic people mourned for their prince, the chronicler writes. They immediately began to revere him as a defender. In 1480, a huge army of knights approached Pskov. In a dream, a prince appeared to one of their townspeople. He ordered to take the cover from the tomb and surround the city. They did, and the Germans left.
The sword of Prince Timothy was crowned to the reign of the Pskov rulers. It’s now in the museum.
In the 17th century, the phenomenon of princes Vsevolod and Dovmont to several Amur Cossacks was recorded. The princes promised them protection in the defense of Albazin from the Chinese. It happened. The Chinese tried to storm the settlement several times, but failed.
After Polish troops left Pskov after the Troubles, Dovmont was canonized. There were numerous testimonies that the saint was always on the defense of the city.
