Priestmartyr Theodore of Cyrene

At the height of the persecution of Christians, in the Libyan city of Kirina, an educated husband, a talented orator, Theodore, was elected bishop. He fervently preached the gospel, converting the Gentiles. In his spare time, he rewrote books to spread the teachings of Christ.
A denunciation was made to the ruler of that region, in which it was asserted that the Christian books and sermons of the feodor turned people away from the pagan faith. The denunciation was written by the ardent pagan Ley, the son of the feodor.
According to the denunciation of his son, the saint was seized and tortured, urging him to renounce the Christian faith. He was beaten, raised on the rack, then cut off his tongue and thrown into prison.
3 The local Christians, Lucia, Cyprilla, and Aroya, raised the tongue of the saint and brought it to prison. Theodore put it to his body and suddenly there was a pigeon in the chamber. When he disappeared, the tongue of the saint grew back, and all wounds healed.
At that time his friend Lucius was visiting the governor. He witnessed a miracle and immediately believed in the Lord. He was baptized by Theodore and departed for Crete, where he was also martyred.
The enraged ruler ordered the execution of wives who brought their tongues to prison. He thought he had lost a friend because of it. The women were executed, but before leaving, Luke convinced the ruler that Christ was the Savior of the world. He also asked Theodore to baptize him. Shortly thereafter, the bishop died. It was in 310.
