Did the warrior Constantine, close to the emperors of Constantinople, think that he would be in Russia? Hardly. But the stern soldier loved Christ with all his heart. Once in the retinue of the bride of Grand Duke Ivan III, Sofia Paleolog, Constantine decided not to return to Byzantium. He renounced secular life, left the princely court and settled with the Rostov bishop. Then, after the bishop, he settled in the Ferapontov monastery. He led a life full of work and feats.
I took my haircut after a wonderful vision. In a dream, Saint Martinian appeared to him and ordered him to become a monk. In the night he adopted the name Cassian. He spent a lot of time thinking and talking to other elders. He was well educated and wrote many conversations and messages, but they have not survived to this day.
In 1477, Cassian decided to leave the monastery, which, to his taste, became too large and noisy. He started traveling, and so he got to Uglich. There Cassian met the Uglich prince Andrew. By mutual agreement, Cassian founded a monastery near the city. They have been blessed with the Holy Spirit. Prince Andrew endowed the monastery with lands and allocated funds for the construction of a stone temple.
Unfortunately, after the death of the prince, the interest of his heirs to the monastery fell and the monastery faded. Saint Cassian lived a long life and was buried there in the monastery. At the end of the 18th century, by decree of Catherine, the monastery was closed. But there are 2 churches: the Assumption and John the Forerunner. In the Assumption Church was the tomb of Cassian and many miracles were performed there through the prayers of pilgrims.
In 1930, all the buildings were blown up and traces of the burial were lost.
