The first Orthodox library without a schedule: we are launching a project of round-the-clock access to spiritual literature

The Holy Land Foundation has announced a fundraiser for the creation of an Orthodox library of a new format — open at any time of the day, seven days a week.

When the soul does not wait for the morning

Today, Orthodox libraries operate on a schedule that is convenient for anyone — but not for the reader. A few hours three times a week, Sunday morning, weekday lunch. A person
who needs a book or an answer to an important question at a late hour is left alone with anxiety and a smartphone. The new project intends to destroy this outdated order.

What will be created

This is not just a library — it is a constantly open space where you can come at any
moment: in the middle of the night, during a break between shifts, at dawn on Sunday or late on Friday evening.

The project combines three key elements:

Modern equipped premiseswith thoughtful zoning and a
security system for round-the-clock work without employees

Electronic catalog for quickly finding the desired publication

Extensive book collection — from the works of the holy fathers and hagiographic literature to
Orthodox fiction.

There are no analogues of this format in Russia yet.

A tradition worth reviving

Historically, book collections in Rus’ were not created with state money — they were formed by society. Patrons and ordinary parishioners donated funds and books from personal
collections, considering it a matter of honor. The new project proposes to return to this tradition: anyone
who wishes can become a co-author of the library, making a feasible contribution to its creation.

What will the funds be used for?
The collected donations will go to three areas:

Premises arrangement — zoning, access control and security systems necessary
for round-the-clock operation.

Furniture and shelving — modern, comfortable, designed for long-term stay of readers.

Formation of a fund — targeted purchase of books so that every visitor finds exactly
what he is looking for.

Why is this important now

In a period of information noise and constant anxiety, people are looking for support. The book remains one of the few tools that can give it. But only on condition that access to it is not limited by the schedule.

A 24/7 library is not just convenience. This is a fundamentally different approach: spiritual literature should be available when it is really needed.
