Internet addiction is much worse than drugs

The world has gone crazy. Finally!!! I was shocked to tears by the story of how a girl from Kazan got into a fatal accident while driving a live broadcast on VKontakte. As a father of many children, it’s scary for me even for a second to imagine the grief her parents are in right now. Lord have mercy… What is going on? Everyone has gone crazy with this Internet. Social networks are a new sect that, like a mirror, reflects the spiritual and moral state of our society. And the picture is terrible — complete moral ugliness. Behind the accounts of “happy and successful” people are hiding deeply unhappy lonely people.

I go to the pages of people who write to me in private messages, direct messages and I am horrified, especially from girls. They write to me with tears in their eyes, and there is such drama, such troubles, that it takes your breath away. And you look at their pages — they all have the same thing as a carbon copy — candid photos, bouquets of roses, restaurants, kisses with a loved one and photo sets in different poses. Outwardly, everything seems to be “fine” with them, but their soul groans from wild pain, their heart breaks from melancholy and loneliness. But under every selfie with duck lips, like mantras, there are hashtags #I can’t love #I love my job #I’m happy #mimimi #life is good

We gain subscribers, time to convince ourselves and others that everything is “super” with us. For what??? It’s just an illusion. Lie. We ourselves do everything to make people envy us, and then we shout that there is only bile around, everyone only wishes us harm and envy us. Well, what kind of circus?

Who cares where you go, what you eat, where you go, who you communicate with? Rave. This is not life, but profanation. Wasting precious time. What do you bring to the world? Just debauchery and sinful abomination in a shiny wrapper. Why copy the so-called “stars”, who themselves live like in a meat grinder and suffer a lot (and, by the way, will be responsible for the fact that they tempt and lead so many people into temptation). What do we need our heads for? Where is conscience? Why even make excuses and report to society about your personal life, family, successes and achievements?! It will be worse for us ourselves. We bring trouble upon ourselves by chasing likes and followers. But the number of subscribers doesn’t mean anything at all. The main thing is the content of our pages. And then serious, business-minded and truly happy people do not hang out on social networks at all.

Excessive Internet activity is a diagnosis of dementia and failure, a sign of unfulfillment and complete dissatisfaction with one’s life. Do not provoke negativity and envy towards yourself, do not heap hot coals on your heads. I advise you as my own children. Shut up!!! Hide everything! Don’t tell anyone about yourself. Don’t prove anything to anyone. Only answer to God and keep your soul from sin. With all our might. A terrible information war is going on for our souls. Why do you give up without a fight and do the will of the devil? He wants to destroy us. And the global web is the best tool. The virtual network is his kingdom!!! Internet addiction — much worse than drugs — disfigures, destroys and kills us, inciting pride and everything base. Can you imagine if the Internet had existed since the creation of the world and saints, apostles, and great elders would have been on social networks??? They would post selfies there, right? But modern people’s souls are rotting and stink of sins; we just pretend to be beautiful and happy. Like expensive coffins — we shine and sparkle on the outside, but on the inside… What do they say? We strive to look good in front of people, but we ourselves are drowning in sins before God…

And in conclusion, I highlight it in RED — if you run your pages on social networks, then ONLY for the sake of evangelism — to bring light and goodness to people, talk about Christ and Orthodoxy… And for our lying, boastful accounts, we will answer to God. Already now we are receiving retribution for our sins, and after death at the Last Judgment, it’s scary to think what will happen. That girl who crashed while driving a car and answering questions live, also did not think about death… But before it’s too late, repent, correct yourself immediately. I express my heartfelt condolences to the parents of the deceased girl and beg everyone — take care of yourself from evil and know that real life opens ONLY in the Church, ONLY with God… Personally, my presence on social networks is forced. I, as a priest, must answer your questions, help people, give good advice, speak, albeit harsh, but enlightening words, but I sincerely admire those people who are not on social networks today and who find the strength not to fall under the wheels of this murderous Internet machine.
