“I saw a man come into the temple, looked closer — Tom Hanks.
He passed by our island on a yacht. A very open, friendly person. After he put the candles on, I invited him to climb the bell tower, so I can testify — Forrest Gump was in Antarctica, and now he’s ringing the bells well.”
Recall that Tom Hanks decided to change his faith after marrying actress Rita Wilson in 1988. She has Bulgarian and Greek roots, and she herself professes Orthodoxy (Greek Church). As Hanks himself has repeatedly said, they got married in the church where Rita was once baptized. Their common children were also baptized in the Greek Church. The entire Hanks family attends an Orthodox church in Los Angeles, and in December 2019 the actor even received Greek citizenship.
