Bring Joy to Others and Find Your Own Joy in It

In Orthodoxy there are holidays that are celebrated each year on different dates, and there are events that took place on a certain day. So, more than a thousand years ago, on the first day of October (now October 14), a miracle happened in Constantinople, in a small temple on the outskirts of the city. The temple was known as
because it contained the clothes of the Mother of Jesus.

Z Enemy squads besieged the capital of Byzantium, and frightened residents gathered at night to pray to the Lord for intercession. Among the parishioners was for Christ a fool named Andrew. And so, the hour before dawn, Andrew raised his eyes to the sky, praying fervently, with all the strength of his soul.

He saw an extraordinary vision: the Mother of God entered the temple through the air. She was accompanied by 2 John, Forerunner and Apostle. There were saints and angels around them. But nothing could compare with the face of the Virgin, radiating a dazzling light. Not trusting himself, Andrew asked his disciple if he saw the Virgin. After receiving confirmation, Andrew realized that this was actually happening. The Mother of God is actually here in the temple, praying with the citizens. At the end of the prayer, the Virgin removed the veil from her head and stretched it over the worshippers. And until she left the church, her plate continued to shelter all believers.

If a believer feels that he is more unhappy in marriage than he was alone, it means that he has not learned to love his spouse. This means that he was and still is selfish, he thinks about himself more than others.

The Church calls us to serve, not to receive joy from life. This means that such a person should go to church, repent, say that he is in trouble: he has not yet learned to love, has not learned to sacrifice, has not learned to rejoice in the joys of others, has not learned to take care of them.

You need to give joy to others and find your joy in this, but you want to get more and more from life. This is not Christian, we have to fight it. To do this, you need to realize this as a sin, and not feel sorry for yourself: “Oh, I am poor and unhappy, no one loves me or regrets me.” Then the question arises: “Who do you feel sorry for?”

Each of us is a sinner. If you are sinful, it does not mean that you are bad, but that there is a flaw in you, a flaw that you must overcome and correct without giving up. With God’s help, we can overcome all sins.
