(Abbot Daniel)

Pilgrimage to Jerusalem is an eternal city.

Jerusalem! This word is sacred to every person who lives in the universe and has an intelligent soul. The history of mankind in all ages considered Jerusalem to be an inexhaustible source of Christian spirituality, exuding abundant grace to those who want to join in the saving events of the earthly life of the Lord.

«Blessed is the Lord of Zion who dwells in Jerusalem, Hallelujah!» (Ps.135, art. 21).Solemnly sound these wonderful words of Davidova’s song about the main secret of Jerusalem – the city: the Lord lives in it! And like this, staying.JerusalemI do not remember the holy forefather Jacob during a wonderful vision of the heavenly ladder, when he, like a boy, was confused babbling naive speech:“Verily the Lord is in this place, and I did not know.” (Gen. 28, v. 16).Really, how strange that is. God is in this place and I didn’t know!

They say that the temple is not in the walls. Jerusalem is also not held by the fortress walls of the XVI century. He is in heaven, and he is in the midst of this world.I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commandments from me. My soul is exhausted by the desire of Your judgments at all times. (Ps.118, art. 19,20).Mountain Jerusalem is a cherished dream.

The heart is troubled when it sees the multilingual worship of the Holy City by the infidels,It has become an object of reverent worship and an apple of discord for people of different nations and religious views. Temple Mount Moriah. Here, Abraham obediently brought to the slaughter the long-awaited son of Sarah Isaac. God accepted only the sacrifice of Abraham’s faith and the blood of the son of man was not shed on the dry stones of the future city. Everyone brings his faith to Jerusalem today.“I will walk freely, for I have sought your commandments” (Psalm 118:45).
Unfortunately, there is a conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. But this does not abolish Jerusalem – Jerusalem – El Quds.

“I will give my vows to the Lord before all his people, in the courts of the house of the Lord, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem!” (Psalms 115:9:10)

El Quds. This is the Arabic name of the city, which is saturated with more than three thousand years of history. It is translated as «Holy City» and this is very consonant with the perception of Jerusalem by the Jews, in consonance with our perception:“Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God who dwells in Zion, on my holy mountain; and Jerusalem shall be holy, and no strangers shall pass through it” (Joel 3:17).Interestingly, this name was given by Muslims not to Mecca or Medina, but to Jerusalem. How not to be surprised by this quiet fatherly hint from heaven?

“I will not be silent for Zion’s sake, nor will I rest for Jerusalem’s sake until the light rises like the light, his righteousness, and his salvation like a burning lamp.” And the nations shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory, and they shall call you by a new name which the mouth of the Lord shall call. (Isaiah 62:1-2).Mount Zion is the cornerstone of Jerusalem. The old city falls from it to the Kedron stream, exposing from the Mount of Olives its flat-top residential houses, multi-domed temples with bell towers, the mosque Kubet es-Sahra, or the mosque of Omar, a giant gilded dome of which has become a hallmarkJerusalemAnd his sights will not leave you indifferent. Under its vaults is the treasured stone on which the holy forefather Abraham made his legendary sacrifice. Jews believe that it was from this stone that God began to create the world. The stone was then used by Orn Jebusian for humna. The angel of death was sent against the Israelites for the sin of David the king. And God, through the prophet Gad, commanded that a sacred altar be built here. The son of David Solomon builds a temple to the Lord on this place and supplies the ark of the Covenant on the sacred stone. When the temple is rebuilt by Herod the Great, the main object of worship is absent in the Holy of Holies and then, by the providence of God, an innocent youth Mary is introduced into the Holy of Holies, who became the Ark for the coming of the Savior of the world. Here the Divine Infant was met by Elder Simeon and the prophetess Anna, who announced the great mission of the Newborn. Within the walls of the temple was the preaching of Christ:“When you see Jerusalem surrounded by troops, then know that its desolation is near: for these are the days of vengeance, that all things written may be fulfilled” (Luke 21:20-22). “Flee, children of Benjamin, from the midst of Jerusalem, For from the north comes trouble and great destruction. I will destroy the daughter of Zion, who is beautiful and tender (Jeremiah 6:12).The desolation of the holy place occurred in the early 70s, when the commander Titus, taking the city by force, destroyed the temple, and the emperor Hadrian built a temple dedicated to Jupiter Capitol on Moria and renamed Jerusalem Elia Capitolina. The Jews and Christians could no longer even approach their holy city.

… Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are over (Luke 21:24).The days of the pagans ceased in the fourth century. And this construction was celebrated. nHoly LandChristian churches equal to the Apostles Queen Helena according to the plan of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Emperor Constantine. It is not known for certain what was built by St. Helena on the Temple Mount, but the building now used by Muslims for the al-Aqsa mosque was an ancient basilica of Byzantine times (renewed by the Crusaders) dedicated to the Meeting of the Lord.

638. The Arabs took the city of Jerusalem, plundered it, and then destroyed the Temple of the Resurrection along with its most important shrines. At the same time, there was a legend about the Islamic prophet Mohamed, who flew into the sky on a horse from Mount Moria, who died only six years before the capture of the Holy City. And it became an occasion to declare Jerusalem a shrine of the Islamic world, which is trampled by the gyauras — infidels.

Thus, history closed on Mount Moriah, sacred to both Jews and Christians.

Who will regret you, Jerusalem? And who will show compassion to you? And who will come to ask you about your welfare? (Jeremiah 15:5)

For centuries, Jerusalem —stumbling block. The holy city cannot be taken by force. He will always escape the hands of rapists. For the conquest of the shrine, feats of a different kind are needed: one must become a relative of holiness, be one with her blood, love as a bride.

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).Here’s the mystery of whyJerusalemThe Holy City is not a city of peace. Everyone who entered the city thought they would own it. ButJerusalem— Center of the Earth:“God, my King from everlasting, who arranges salvation in the midst of the earth.” (Ps. 73, art. 12).He was chosen by God’s people.Jerusalemas a place to save the world. It was not Abraham, but God who brought His Son. And for the sacrifice was chosen not Mount Moriah, where the daily blood sacrifices of animals were already being offered, but the infamous Calvary — the place of executions of criminals. It was no longer necessary to bind the Son of Man, but to nail him to a tree. It is not a knife at the throat that should draw blood, but a belated spear pierces the ribs of the new Adam, releasing blood.“For many shed for the remission of sins.” Ev. of Matthew 26, p. 28.And water is life for the whole world, just as Eve came out of her husband’s rib in paradise into the lives of future generations.

To whom Jerusalem may belong,Where is the place of salvation for the whole world? To whom is God?—perhaps only to the one for whom it is placed on the flag of history as the destruction of all enmity and untruth.

“Seek peace to Jerusalem, that those who love you may prosper.” May peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces. For the sake of my brethren and neighbours, I say: Peace be to you! For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I wish you well (Psalm 121:6-9).

Holy Land —He is the witness of God, the witness of the world.

“O Jerusalem, I will forget my right hand.” Tie my tongue to my throat, lest I mention you, lest I offer Jerusalem, as in the beginning of my rejoicing (Psalm 136:5-6).

Already in the first century of Christ, believers sought to visit places associated with the life of Christ and the Virgin. Secretly, fearful of being caught and fed to the lions in the arena, they made their way to Jerusalem, for faith was stronger than fear.
Everything changed when Christianity became the official religion. Already the mother of the emperor with respect and humility goes to Jerusalem with a large retinue. It was from her visit that a mass pilgrimage to the Holy Land began. Over the centuries, the clothes of pilgrims, the transport they use, have changed. But the desire to be filled with God’s grace burns in their hearts invariably.
To visit the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, to ascend to Calvary, to join the service is like opening a window into another, spiritual world. The Lord’s Holy Sepulchre, the Stone of the Anointing, covers the believer at the Holy Sepulchre, in the limit of gaining the Life-giving Cross.
The heart is happy and filled with hope when visiting monasteries and temples in the Holy Land. There comes an answer to prayers at miraculous icons and sacred springs.
With a renewed heart and a purified soul, pilgrims return from such a trip, bringing home the joyful news: The Kingdom of Heaven exists and its light falls on the Holy Land.
