I’d like to tell you a story. It happened to a well-known student. He studied well, but he was not particularly good at higher mathematics. And at the end of the second year, he did not manage to pass the tower. He failed exam after exam. When he was given one last chance—either taking the exam or flying out of college—he took a ticket and realized he couldn’t answer.
The teacher also understood this: «Okay, here’s the differential equation for you.» If you solve it, I’ll give you a three. The student looked at this equation and realized that he could not solve it either. And then he cried out, “Lord, forgive me for being so stupid and learning badly.” But if it is Your holy will that I study at this institute, help me. Because if I’m cured, they’ll take me into the army, and those two years will be a waste. Then why did you let me come here?
And then he heard a voice in his head, not even a voice, but an insistent thought: «Write — equally.» Well, why are you sitting, I tell you, write — R A N O. The guy was surprised and wrote the icon «=». Write further — two, then draw — fraction, but not such, longer, write on top — dx, from below open the bracket.
The student was surprised to do everything that this “voice” suggested to him, and only then looked at what the teacher had given him, and was surprised to find out that, indeed, one is equal to the other. To spin this equation further was a matter of technique, the main thing was to take that first step.
Fortunately, the student was Orthodox and after the exam, shocked, rushed to the nearest church. His friend the priest immediately served a thanksgiving service and then said, “This guardian angel helped you.” These are the stories of God’s mercy.
