Now go dry your boots and robe.

During the Great Patriotic War, Seraphim Vyritsky prayed hard to the Mother of God and St. Seraphim, and we have wonderful evidence that this prayer was truly effective. In the winter of 1942, Seraphim, the elder’s mother, had a dream at night: Elder Seraphim, in boots and a white robe, chases many armed German soldiers across a snow-covered field, who flee from him in terror.

In the morning, when Seraphim’s mother came for the blessing, the elder said, “Saw you?” Now go dry your boots and robe. Indeed, at night he went out into the winter garden and prayed on a stone in boots, throwing on a white robe for disguise, so that the neighbors did not see. Valenki and robe, as Seraphim’s mother recalled, were wet. How the old man endured these night vigils at his sick feet, God only knows.

Never ask the Lord for anything earthly. He knows better than we do what is useful to us. Pray always this way: “I will deliver myself, my children, and all my relatives and neighbors to Your holy will.”

At least once in your life you need to put a candle for those whom we have offended, counted, stolen, not returned debt.
