The Relics of the Blessed Matrona of Moscow

Sometimes history is created right before our eyes and the greatness of God is revealed to our contemporaries. This happened to the old Matrona, nicknamed Moscow.

You could say she was our contemporary. People who saw her as a child are still alive. The life of Matrona is another testimony to the greatness of the living God. Who was, is and will be, and His glory manifests itself through ordinary, and sometimes unusual, people.

The birth of Matrona can be called unusual in the sense that the girl was born blind. At the end of the 19th century, this problem was perceived as a tragedy. But the life of Matrona was not a tragedy. She was filled with light and love.

Thousands of people received healing through the prayers of the saint. For many, it has become an example of selfless, pure faith.

Blind, paralyzed Matrona generously shared her gift, did not drive anyone away, helped everyone, even after death.

People came to the grave from all over the vast country.

In 1998, on the eve of the eighth of March, Patriarch Alexy gave a blessing to transfer the relics of Matrona to the Danilov monastery. And after some time they were placed in cancer and sent to the Pokrovsk monastery there, in Moscow. That’s where they rest.

There were 2 events in 1999. Matrona was glorified as a locally revered saint, and an icon with her image was painted.

The relics of the saint are available for veneration, but it is not necessary to go to Moscow to pray before them. Icons and arks with particles of relics of the blessed woman are regularly delivered to large and small churches of Russia. Believers flock there to offer prayers to a saint whose life has been a feat of faith. The saint, who promised to personally meet in the Kingdom of Heaven, everyone who has ever addressed her.
