Now we call Anna righteous, but her contemporaries did not see her holiness and depth of faith. They noted that Anna and her husband Joachim had no children. In Jewish culture, childlessness was seen as a punishment for sins.
They did not give up on the Lord’s promise, but they did not give up on the Lord’s promise.
However, to survive the denial of sacrifice was not easy. It happened to Joachim.
He went into the wilderness and fasted there. And Anna prayed at home. Once again, she asked for God’s blessing, promising to give the baby to be raised in the temple.
Her prayer was heard, as was her husband’s. After 9 months, the couple had a beautiful girl named Maria.
When Mary was 3 years old, her parents brought her to the temple, as promised. She remained there until her betrothal to Joseph.
Joachim died soon after, and Anna lived for several years at the temple, until one day she departed peacefully to the Lord. According to legend, she was 79 years old.
