Putin called the acquisition of the relics of Dmitry Donskoy “miraculous” after the prayer service in the Kremlin

Details of the opening of the sarcophagus to the president were outlined by Deputy Director General of the Kremlin Museums Andrei Batalov. The scientific side of the find was reported by the Director of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Makarov. The authenticity of the remains was confirmed by anthropological examination.

Two days earlier, on August 18, Patriarch Kirill held a prayer service near the tomb. And on August 20, the representative of the Synodal Department for Public Relations Vakhtang Kipshidze said that access to the shrine will be opened to everyone in the central churches. Specific addresses will be announced later. He also specified that a fragment of the relics will be sent to the zone of a special military operation.

Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Konstantin Mogilevsky drew attention to the symbolic context of the event. The figure of Donskoy, in his opinion, personifies the cohesion of society and the strengthening of sovereignty.

The prince was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1988. His remains were buried in the Archangel Cathedral, the tomb of Moscow rulers. The researchers got access to them for the first time in a long time thanks to repair work.

Now the issue of the distribution of particles of relics in the temples of the country is being resolved. In the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the transfer of the shrine is also expected.
