Hona, translated hole, cleft. In Phrygia, in the 7th century, a temple was built in the name of Archistratig Michael. It was built after the daughter of a wealthy citizen found the gift of speech after a long silence. In gratitude, the father built a temple, baptized himself and his whole family.
The temple was not large, but it was a continuous stream of people. They were fascinated by the church itself, the unusual locality, and most importantly, the ministers who turned the hearts of the pagans to the Savior with a fervent sermon.
Many adherents of the old faith became Christians. The believers rejoiced and the pagans resented.
They planned to demolish the church. But do not go with a hoe and a sledgehammer to the temple, where dozens of Christians worship Christ. Therefore, detractors conceived to redirect the beds of two rivers at once so that they rushed to the temple and washed it away with a stream of water.
It almost worked. The rivers united, and a powerful stream rushed to the temple.
The ponomary of the church, Archippus of Cherotopus, appealed to its heavenly patron. The prayer of the righteous was heard. Archangel Michael himself appeared in the tomesto, where he struck the rock with a spear. The impact formed a cleft and the waters of the rivers flowed into it, not causing harm to the temple. Hence the name of the area: Hona.
Unexpectedly, the story continued on Russian soil. The teacher of Dmitry Donskoy, Metropolitan Alexy received an “invitation” to the Horde. He was summoned to perform a miracle and cure Taidulu Khansha, who suddenly lost her sight. Before that, the venerable and virtuous metropolitan did not perform any special miracles. So he went to the Horde as if to die. However, his faith was strong and he gave his life into the hands of Christ. The Lord showed his strength: the hansha was healed. It happened on September 19, the day of the miracle of Archistratig Michael in Honeh.
Hansha was so happy that she had the opportunity to see that she gave the metropolitan a large plot of land in the center of Moscow, where the Horde stable was located.
Upon his return to Moscow, Metropolitan Alexy energetically began to clear the square for the construction of the first temple of the monastery, which will go down in history as a monastery of miracles. The temple was consecrated in honor of the miracle in Honeha.
Unfortunately, the Bolsheviks destroyed the Chudov Monastery, along with its magnificent frescoes, in 1930. So far, we are not talking about its restoration.
