Finding the Relics of Saint Euphemia, the Suzdal Wonderworker

Tomorrow, July 17, 2026, in the Savior-Euphimius Monastery of Suzdal, celebrations will be held dedicated to the 519th anniversary of the discovery of the incorruptible remains of the founder of the monastery.

Tonight, July 16, there will be an all-night vigil in the Transfiguration Cathedral. And in the morning of the festive day there will be a Divine Liturgy. It is expected that the service will be headed by one of the vicar bishops of the Vladimir Metropolis in the service of the monastery clergy. The chants will be performed by the male choir of the monastery. On this day, the church calendar unites several memorable dates at once: the celebration of Andrei Rublev, Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky, the royal passion-bearers, as well as the 5th Week of Pentecost. Pilgrims from different cities are expected to arrive.

After the liturgy, believers will pass a procession around the cathedral, then make a kneeling prayer at the raki with the relics of the monk. The archpastor will address the assembled with a sermon. At the exit of the temple, everyone will be waiting for a traditional treat — pies and kvass.

The history of the holiday dates back to July 4, 1507 according to the old style. Then, while digging a ditch under the foundation of a new stone cathedral, workers discovered the incorruptible remains of the saint. Since that time, this date is fixed in the church calendar as the day of memory of St. Euthymius, the Suzdal wonderworker.
