A hermit monk, Saint Siso spent 60 years in an Egyptian cave, where Anthony the Great lived before him. By his prayerful deeds, humility, fervent faith, he earned many blessings from the Lord. He rewarded him with wisdom, kindness, and miracles.
The most famous miracle of the saint was the resurrection of a young man. And the hermit did not even know that he was dead. The father and son were on their way to the saint’s cave when the boy died. His father brought him into the cave and silently placed him at Sisoy’s feet. The elder thought that these people came for his blessing and gave it to them. The father went outside, and the young man remained at the feet of the elder. Then the saint decided to cheer him up and said, “Arise a child and go with your father.” The young man stood up and followed his parent. This miracle was the most significant, but not the only one that the elder performed.
And how many people he helped with advice, guidance or just participation? The power of his prayer is told by the story of the disciple of St. Apollos, who was attacked by the devil.
He tempted him with priesthood and carnal pleasures, but finally retreated, saying, “Sisoy’s prayers prevent me from approaching you.”
Very unusual was the death of the elder. He spent his last hours surrounded by students.
The brethren were amazed at how the face of the saint had changed. It was filled with glow. Asked what was going on, the elder replied that he saw angels coming for him, but asked them to wait a while so that he could repent. Then he said he saw the Lord. His face began to radiate such light that it was impossible to look. In the fear of God, the brethren lowered their eyes and at this moment the saint departed to heaven. This extraordinary event took place in 429.
