Peter the Wonderworker, Bishop of Argos

People come to God in different ways. At any age and for various reasons. Peter was lucky, his parents were very devout people. They raised their 4 sons in trembling before the Lord. The whole family adopted monasticism. Peter was distinguished by virtues even in the background of his relatives. The Patriarch of Constantinople offered him the post of bishop 2 times, but he refused. As a result, his brother Paul became bishop of Corinth, and Peter lived in his house, keeping a vow of silence for several years. But then the inhabitants of the Greek Argos appealed to his good heart, saying that there was no one in the city to baptize children, to marry the young and to mourn the dead. Peter
He agreed to become a bishop.

Peter wisely governed his community, wrote extensively on spiritual subjects, but was most remembered for miracles during the famine. 3 poor harvest years in a row left without food a huge number of people. Saint Peter gave everyone shelter and a piece of bread. When it was reported to him that the supplies had come to an end, he prayed earnestly and the grain did not decrease, no matter how much it was distributed. Peter healed the sick, helped the maimed, and bought prisoners.

Peter died a venerable old man and miracles were constantly performed at his grave: the coffin myrrhaged, miraculous healings took place. In the 15th century, the body of the saint was transferred to the city of Nauplion, but then it disappeared. The relics were found in a monastery near Rome in 2008. They were solemnly transported to the Cathedral of Argos.
