Job the Long-Suffering

The name Job became a symbol of acceptance. All that he received from the Lord with humility, he did not murmur or complain, showing us an example of true obedience.

God blessed Job abundantly. He had obese herds, many servants, and most importantly — 3 beautiful daughters and 7 strong and brave sons. Job was righteous, obedient to God. He constantly offered sacrifices for his children to make amends for their guilt, free or involuntary.

Satan could not bear such righteousness, he wanted to harm Job. He lost his wealth and the joy of his heart was his children. During the feast, the roof of the house collapsed and all the children died. Cattle are extinct. Wealth is gone. Instead of supporting them, they condemned them. They believed that Job’s suffering was sent for his sins.

Job alone endured hardship. Whatever the Lord does not send, he said, joy or distress, we should receive with humility.

Satan decided to make his life worse. Job’s body was covered with sores, everyone turned away from him. The devil was sure that now Job would curse God. But no, still, with humility, Job offered praise to the Lord.

For obedience, humility and righteousness, the Lord blessed Job. He restored his health and wealth. The saint had 7 sons and 3 daughters. He died surrounded by his family, as steadfast and obedient to the Lord as he had been all his life.

Believers turn to Job asking for patience and wisdom in difficult situations. He is considered the protector of the suffering and the sick.
